Year: 1986 Make: Ford Model: Mustang SVO Vital Specs: Engine: 2.3L OHC 4-cylinder Injectors: 42lbs Turbo: T-3 Transmission: 5-speed T-5 Weight: 3200lbs Horsepower: 205hp Red-line: 6750rpms Introduced in 1984, the SVO was Ford's attempt to create a total package. What I mean by this is Ford's Special Vehicle Team was trying to create a vehicle that not only accelerated well, but handled great as well. They succeeded in a big way with the SVO Mustang. I believe its weight distribution is something like 55% front and 45% rear. The package also included a turbocharged 4-cylinder that made more power then the 302 equipped GTs of that era. So what else was special? all SVOs got four wheel disc brakes, there is the bi-wing spoiler (which is missing on mine), also special side splats and different hood that forced air over the intercooler. The SVO was also a limited production model they made less then 10,000 vehicles in the three years of production (1984-1986). What are the bad things about this car? They tend to have a little blowby after 70-80k miles. They have a tendency to rust (at least the doors, hatch and the back of the roof do). Thats about it. Other then that they are a blast to drive and own. You may be wondering what mine was like. Well as you can see from the pictures it was a 1986 medium canyon red SVO. It was missing one of the side splats when I got it and the upper bi-wing spoiler. I also owned this car for about a year. She had 75,000 miles on the motor and 175,000 miles on the body, was missing the headliner, but all in all she was a whole lot of fun to take out and drive. She handled well, accelerated well, heck she did just about everything well. Sean Williams 3/30/04
